Uses 8 hole 5 inch velcro discs. I believe they are the most common type available at local hardware stores. The grinder is powerful and has a large β inch (3mm) orbital pattern. Having 3 speeds is good, but it can feel slow even on the fastest settings. It moves a little slower than most corded sanders, but sandpaper still cuts quickly thanks to the large orbital pattern. In fact, I use a coarser grit on this grinder than on faster corded grinders. The velcro is very flat. A very flat pad and slower orbital oscillation can result in higher grit sanding pads being better at picking up your base material and the sander can be a bit difficult to control under heavy pressure. I have found that I have the most control with light pressure and even with two hands with light pressure the control works very well. Even with a slightly different technique than my wired grinder, I find this Makita very useful and surprisingly good. It runs very quietly for a grinder and although the noise is slow it is efficient and cuts quickly. I use it with a cordless vacuum and it picks up dust really well. I usually remove the dust bag from the dust collection port adapter and plug my vacuum hose in place of the bag. I temporarily fix the hose. I think I'll buy a Makita hose adapter for their grinders to use with this one. The dust bag does its job well, but like any indoor grinder without a dust bag, it picks up dust everywhere. I hope this review is helpful.
