Direct replacement for old bulbs. Easy to install - just replace. But they require cleaner contacts and switches. Old flashlights might lag along with rusted contacts and switches, and incandescent bulbs would be just a little dimmer. But under these conditions, these lamps either work intermittently, chaotically, or not at all. I had my father's 40 year old Brinkman 2D Element flashlight when they first started making high power machined aluminum flashlights. It was "modern art" back then. I gave it to my dad for Christmas when I was a kid so he could take it in his car. I didn't want to break up with him. Everything worked "well" with the original bulb (just weakly), but not with these bulbs - at first. I was disappointed. But then I took it apart, cleaned the contacts and sprayed the old switch with contact cleaner (if you do this, be sure to use one that won't damage the plastic parts). Now with these bulbs works better than with new ones. It's at least 50% brighter than ever. He restored my flashlight, which I now always carry in the car. It will probably survive me too. If you have a good old flashlight that you want to get working again, this is the solution.
