I used a Panasonic system with basic call blocking and 250 number memory. It only took a few years to complete! Then if I want to block a number, I have to delete the previously blocked number first. This inspired me to look for a new system and I noticed this AT&T model with a much more sophisticated custom call blocking feature; and it saves up to 1000 blocked numbers! The first thing you need to do is select one of the 5 call barring configurations1. Allow all calls except blacklisted.2. Block any call from a number that is not in the directory, permissions list, or celebrity list. The caller is prompted to enter their name and press #.3. Show only calls that don't show a phone number. The caller is prompted to enter their name and press #.4. Screen robot only. All callers will be prompted to press # to call.5. Block calls that don't show a phone number and forward all calls from numbers that aren't in the directory, permissions list, or star list to your answering machine. You can also manually add a number to the block list and from caller ID. I chose option #5 and had to spend some time filling out the entries in the Directory, Admissions and Star Names list to ensure that any calls I wished to put through would be able to. For others; If it's important, leave a message. The phone rings once when an unassigned number rings before going to answering machine. If you wish, you have the option to filter the call from your phone. It doesn't ring at all for anonymous callers. The handsets have a dedicated call barring button that can be used during a call. As soon as you press the call blocking button and confirm the blocking, it will be announced; "The number you are calling is not answering your call. Please hang up." Annoying: The system regularly records blank prompts if the caller doesn't hang up immediately after the prompt begins. The 10 ring tones range from "I can handle this" to "Please stop using it". The system works like clockwork and I'm no longer bothered by unwanted calls I'm using this with a VOIP service I've focused on blocking calls but this phone system has a lot of handy features including 'push to talk' to to use it as a radio. The kit comes with a 110-page "abridged" owner's manual. An even more detailed manual is available online at the manufacturer's website. I find it helpful to look up user manuals online when searching for products to determine what whether a product meets my requirements.
