The only way to remove the diffusers to allow these fixings to be secured with the screws provided is to use a screwdriver to press very firmly on the tabs that attach them to the hold base. You will need to push these tabs off the top of the bracket as they fit the slots very tightly. This is not possible if the element is attached to the ceiling. The instructions say to pinch the diffuser and pull it out of the base, but this isn't possible unless the protrusions are trimmed with something. I used a set of small side cutters to trim them so they aren't as tight in the slot and now I can easily remove them by pinching as instructed. Maybe mine were defective, but both lamps had this problem. As long as you don't mind product issues right out of the box, you should be fine.
