Slide scanner accessory

I've used this to convert slides, haven't tried it with negatives yet and it worked well . I have a low-end Dell computer with a Celeron processor and a home edition of Windows XP. The installation went smoothly, no problems. The only "complaint" would be that the device doesn't allow you to control the scanning options. For example, some slides had very light backgrounds or foregrounds, and the scanner brought out these features - in some cases erasing facial features or other details. After some scanning I found that you can control this issue a bit by saving the scan before it fully scans the slide, but you'll have to experiment with that. In other cases, when the slide appears very dark, sometimes having it scanned in full is great. In my experience, scanning a slide takes about 1 minute or less. Overall, being able to convert old slides into digital images was nice for the price. As mentioned, it requires some experimentation, but once you get used to the controls and get started, it becomes pretty handy. Another thing I want to mention is that you have to be careful with it - it looks good enough but the slide and negative trays are quite fragile. Also, do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with the Backlight Cleaning Brush and use it often or as needed. You can clearly see when it's time to clean as you can see small smudges on the screen without the chute installed. Once you have scanned 12 slides you need to save them to your computer. The scanned slides will appear at the bottom of the screen. When a set is complete (12 slides), save it to your computer. It took about 2 minutes to save 12 slides on my computer. I believe it would be much faster with a better computer. I have no idea how this will work with Vista or other operating systems, but it was fine with XP. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. I'm sure there are many scanners out there that offer a lot more features, but they're probably a lot more expensive.

Pros
  • Easy to use with one touch instant scan with 5 megapixel sensor for high resolution full color scanning
Cons
  • Not as thick as other tools
