I bought this winch to pull boulders from a creek bed up a steep bank (60 degrees+). It worked well on two irregularly shaped boulders that weighed between 300 and 400 pounds. Overall I am very happy with the winch and would buy it again. ". My method was to bolt the winch to a sturdy tree at the top of the embankment. I used tie bolts, but the "problem" was that the holes in the winch for mounting were not aligned well to allow a Screwdriver or impact wrenches to use, so I had to wind them up with a screwdriver and then tighten (and eventually remove) them with a socket wrench.Of course, if you're mounting the winch somewhere all the time, it doesn't matter.
