Review on Modulator Composite Converter Adapter Component by Ben Barrington

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great

I used this to connect a Fire Stick via HDMI to a fancy little CRT TV with only a coax input. After a few minutes of fiddling with the buttons, I had perfect picture and sound. The television does not require an external digital tuner. This device works with both PAL and NTSC frequencies. So if it doesn't work properly, make sure you switch to the correct region. The device arrived set in PAL and I had a distorted picture and loud noise. Once I realized I needed to switch to NTSC, everything worked beautifully. HDMI and composite interface work perfectly. Build quality leaves a lot to be desired, the recessed brightness and volume buttons were a little crooked and difficult to manipulate with a screwdriver, and the metal body is fairly thin. I don't know if it will survive a fall on a hard surface. However, HDMI's only competitor at this price point is the RadioShack RF modulator, which has significantly fewer features than this one. I'm giving it 5 stars because there really isn't anything else on the market that compares at this price point.

Pros
  • RCA to Coax Adapter - Converts composite line-level video/analog stereo audio to RF (coax) for connection to older TVs that do not have line-level AV jacks; and the audio and video output level is adjustable.
Cons
  • Skimpy Instructions
