I mainly use this in a 5 gallon aquarium with fry of African cichlids to get some extra airflow to keep them healthy. I hooked it up to a large air pump, but I use a few other things from it, including an adjustable valve to control airflow. You don't need a very powerful pump at all to get the desired effect from this air stone. It produces a large number of small bubbles for a few weeks, and then as it fills with minerals from harder water and algae, it shrinks a little. After a few weeks, it still works better than any other air stone, the bubbles are a bit bigger. A 30 minute soak in very light vinegar or peroxide and water with a quick scrub and it will return to its original state. The suction cups came cheap and broke pretty quickly, but I didn't buy them because of the suction cups. Doesn't bother in any way. Highly recommended for juvenile fish OR to remove excess ammonia from the aquarium. I sometimes switch it to the back of my 15 gallon tank to help with that and it cleans the ammonia in a day.
