Review on Panasonic LUMIX G Lens 42.5mm F1.7 ASPH. - Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds with Power Optical I.S. - H-HS043K (USA Black): Professional Photography Lens for Stunning Shots by Jim Fuhrer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Small, fast, cheap, close focus and IQ compared to other great lenses

No wonder that dpreview chose this lens as the "Best Fixed Focal Lens (Portrait)" among several "Best Micro Four Thirds Lenses". This is by far one of my all time favorite lenses and it's always with me, usually in the form of a lens mounted on my small M43 camera body in my jacket pocket. Surprisingly, it's significantly smaller than Panasonic's 25mm f1.7 lens, which is quite compact in its own right. The attached images show the results with this lens, along with my old favorite Micro-Nikkor 200mm f4 mounted on a glasses-free M43 adapter and two of my killer workhorse zooms: the Panasonic 45-175mm f4-5 .6 and the Panasonic Leica 12-60mm f2 . .8-4. I've shot images of different colors at different times and days in a wide variety of lighting conditions, combining the light of a table lamp, sometimes with daylight from a window, without any post-processing other than the minimum necessary to fit the reviews of these outstanding lenses. . I prefer Panasonic lenses and bodies because of (1) the powerful optical stabilization between the camera and the lens, often offering 6.5 stops of image stabilization, and (2) the very short focus distance. This allows me to photograph flowers and butterflies without macros or tripods. often makes the difference between a great shot and not taking a photo.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • The list will go on.
