Review on Shogun Motorsports Yamaha FZ 09 Sliders by Mick Ohlrogge

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Terrible two piece design

These leads are very light compared to standard weights which I think goes without saying even if the description doesn't say so specifically considering they are CNC plastic. However, nowhere in the description does it say it is a two piece construction. Installation is extremely easy: the plastic slider is screwed to the aluminum adapter and screwed into the handlebar. Both the adapter and the slider can be installed by simply tightening the screw. However, there is a gap of about 20cm between the handle and the slider where you can see the adapter and the slider doesn't seem to be centered on the adapter. The biggest problem, and quite scary after being frustrated with the weight and design, came when trying to remove the end of the handlebar. The plastic part of the slider can be easily removed when loosening the screw. However, the aluminum adapter fits snugly into the handlebars and stays in place. That open eighth of an inch isn't nearly enough surface area to take out to remove safely or without damage, and not even enough to fit some sort of needle vise in there if I wouldn't care about damaging it. . The solution, unreliable as it was, was to tighten the screw near where I feared it might break in the adapter, then grab the slider from the outside (only with bare hands, thankfully) and pull at it pull. outward to pull the bottom of the screw head, and instead of the screw, twist the entire slider to remove the adapter from the handlebar. I suppose if you don't mind the two-piece design if you never plan on taking it out after leaving it for more than a week or so (the end of the handlebar that came out of my garage bike had rust on the threads; i think the standard bar end is steel and the adapter for it is aluminum) and if you want a lighter bar end they're fine, but the design seemed really thoughtless to me and I like the weighted bar ends.
