In my flame tests, this addition did little to improve heat dissipation at the bottom of the pot. I poured a thin layer of water into several aluminum pans and checked where the water bubbles (boiling) were. The bubbles were arranged in a circle slightly larger than the burner with minimal additional scatter. It's pointless with a frying pan. This is one way to put the pot on the stove, but you will end up with a small boiling point in the center of the pot. In the end, your best bet is to just use the mug that comes with the JetBoil or legal/LNT make a small fire and set the pan over some coals.
