Review on Home Basics Marble Handle Collection by Aliana Brown

A good carving knife at a bargain price

Made my wife a little annoyed with a cheap carving knife she bought. She replaced it with this one. The blade really convinced me. It is strong, with a slight wedge shape from a blunt to a sharp edge. This gives it the desired stiffness for cooking root crops. The cutting edge is well sharpened and uniform over the entire circumference. The blade is much better than usual in this price range. The grip fits me, but I see in another review that it doesn't fit everyone. However, the handle of this knife only has two problems. First, the ending looks a bit silly. It took me a while to realize that it was painted to look like marble and not just dirty. The other issue is small but related to food safety. In the attached photo you can see a slight gap between the blade and where the cutting edge meets the handle. Food particles that can fester there can lead to bacterial growth and the spread of contamination when used later. This is not a problem if the knife is washed thoroughly. In any case, paring knives are not normally used for meat products. Yes, I'm actually pretty picky about knives and a little hard to please. For that I find this inexpensive knife surprisingly good. I've seen much worse knives that cost three or four times as much.
