Great backup camera and great instructions

This backup camera kit worked great on my 2012 Camry! The instructions are great and the videos on the seller's website are really helpful. work because the video no longer exists. I bought a high quality car panel removal kit which with so many parts I probably won't need. Although I've used a number of different ones that I wasn't expecting. One of them was really handy, it was like the end of a hammer on one side to help pull out the knobs on the trunk trim. It took me longer than most people because I've never done anything like this before and every time something went wrong I came back to watch the video to make sure I didn't screw it up. For example, all videos are shot on brand new cars. Something has accumulated under the trunk cover above the license plate where the license plate light is. It does not come off immediately even if you unscrew the hex nuts and loosen the plastic cover clip. It also has two other clips on the sides and I had to use trim removal tools to get them out. Nothing like the video where the guy just picked it up gently and immediately took it off. Another example is my radio getting stuck even though everything was detached and "ready" to be pulled out. He didn't get up either. In both cases I had to go back and watch the video multiple times just to make sure I wasn't missing anything because I didn't want to force anything. Then as I routed the cables from the trunk to the rear of the car. I don't have a plastic wire trap and I don't know anyone who does. Dang one would be nice to get in advance. However, a wire hanger straightened with duct tape wrapped around one end to keep it from becoming sharp worked fairly well. The only problem was that he wanted to lean along the inside of the back seat. I had to pull the side of the seat out a bit and use a flashlight to find it and then grab it with needle nose pliers to get it out. As soon as I received it, I wound up the cables in the car and stretched them to the trunk. I hooked up the radio first and then went back to the back of the car because I wanted to make sure the camera was working first. I finished everything. It ended up taking me a full three hours with all the stops and repetitions. This involved putting everything back together and fighting the kick bar trim that wouldn't come back until I found out you had to install the center trim slide connector first and then attach the rest when you put it back on. I think it took a good 20 minutes. The release of the shroud took a good 40 minutes. So a lot of time was wasted. If I do it again I will be much faster. One thing I would change is that I would drill the hole further back/closer to the barrel. I placed it in the middle like in the video and it's pushed forward a little bit than I would have liked. But it works great and I'm happy with it. And because of the 2 mm difference, I will not disassemble the trunk, remove the trim and redrill again! I went back to the trunk and added some extra bulk to the chassis. I didn't notice any difference in video quality, but it wasn't difficult to do. I just bought a spade clamp or a fork clamp to attach the end of the cable and then loosened the nut in the trunk near the tail light (you will need to remove the trunk trim in that area) and put the fork clamp under the nut and tightened it again tight to fit the chassis, replaced extra wiring where I hid them in the trunk trim and replaced the trunk upholstery.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Something different
