Great if you fix the splashing

You're like me where you don't care about sparkling water, you care about splashes and splashes? hear a loud, unpleasant hissing sound. I don't quite understand why he's hissing like that, but it was driving me insane. Here's what I did. In the instructions you will see two parts: the inlet tube (9) and the outlet cap (8). Follow the instructions to assemble the grow box, but then do the following if you're as bothered by the splashing sound as I am. Discard the drain cap. Insert a piece of air hose about three inches long into the top of the intake pipe where the exhaust cap would normally be. Just feed him enough to be safe. Place the other end of the air hose in the water of the grow box. They will gush rather than squirt, which I find more bearable. Plus it's a great little box. I use it half as a filter, half moss and shrimp storage. Edit: BTW if you do the above fix make sure the air hose you are using is not too long. Too long and the water struggles to fill it with the u-turn of the intake tube, making it work like an air pump instead of drawing water from the main reservoir. When this happens and you don't realize it can be pretty bad. For example, if your house is cold but the aquarium is warm, the pump will not deliver warm water from the main aquarium to the grow box, so the temperature will drop sharply. Poorly. You are also only dealing with the amount of water in the box, not the amount of water in the entire tank, which is also bad. So let's say you have this 10 or 20 gallon grow box and you repaired it incorrectly so that only air is ducted into the box, then you only get the water quality of the box, which is tiny. So make sure that water enters the box and exits the box again through the overflow (at least it should drip constantly).

Pros
  • .5 gallon
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
