I've been using it in the field about 200 days a year since I got it a few years ago. I stick a protective film on it and change it once or twice a year. I use it every day for biological fieldwork, navigating 2.4km transects, marking data points, etc. It took me a while to get used to Basecamp and I still use Mapsource for some stuff for files , but the Garmin software is MUCH easier. as Delorme's stuff. I got a Delorme Earthmate PN-60w as a backup/spare when my old Garmin 76 broke and I found the PN60 very difficult to understand and the software was crazy. I have both because of the ability to upload satellite imagery to them. Delorme software is too boring, too many levels. Garmin, you just say "high resolution" and you're good to go. Garmin download speed is SLOW. To get a 150 x 100 mile high-resolution area, you'll have to spend a day and a half going back and clicking on the next section you want to download. a 200MB file takes about an hour. I've tried faster connections than my 5MB/s setup and it's still tiresomely slow. Pros: Indestructible (mostly) I like 10,000 waypoints, I plug in a 32GB memory card and it has about 20GB of satellite imagery loaded on it. .I like old style buttons. I work a day and a half on my rechargeable AA batteries, which I charge with my little solar charger. 30 second, 1 minute, or 2 minute intervals. Custom Pro and Con-Custom setup, you can make it look like your old Garmin format for those who've used 76 too much, but it's a bit of a hassle and it's too easy to accidentally factory reset - it won't erase yours Data, just your page settings, map settings, etc. Cons - Garmin satellite imagery loads slowly and requires a $30/year subscription. Oh, and if you have images saved on your computer that you downloaded while your subscription was active, you won't be able to move them back to your device after it expires. They want that $30 a year. Eh, the cost of doing business might not be that appealing to me for a recreational user.
