I just received this tag and the pen works fine and it seems like a good pen for my old Ipad Per 9.7. The problem is that the instructions weren't for this pen; In my guide, the power button and charging port are swapped. Luckily I came back, looked at the instructions here and found everything is fine. The on/off switch is at the top, like a regular ballpoint pen.
