I wanted to send a message. I think it could be perfect for removing clogged hair or anything that isn't small and hard. I didn't have a grate on the sink. I dropped the cap on a small product and it fell down the drain but I could see where it was. I didn't want it to slide any further. It was a cap about 3/4 inch in size. I went online and found this. It seemed like it could grab anything, and it was only about a foot deep. I opened the handle and found it very difficult to press on the top to pop it out for use. I could barely move the lever that allows it to open. I had to get help and finally, with great difficulty, was able to push it back to where it opened. When I tried to grab hold of the dropped tip, the metal kept slipping around it and couldn't grab it. It's metal vs plastic so it just slipped off every time. If the metal had a rubber band on the handle, it would help hold and lift the plastic object. Until better quality comes out I wouldn't bother unless it catches hair or something hard and plastic.
