This worked great when connected to an Aurduino Mega 2560 via the I2C bus. My only complaint is the lack of documentation. I've found enough information to get started by searching the web and checking out other users' comments. The built in IR chip runs on 3.3 volts BUT the breakout board also has a built in voltage regulator. As a result, the board works with +5 volts. Visit SparkFun.com for demo software. Google "MLX90614_Serial_Demo". This version of the IR chip measures both object temperature and ambient temperature. I don't have an accurate digital thermometer to measure accuracy but it seems to be on the right level.
