Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Nikon 1 J1 10.1 MP HD Digital Camera Kit with 10-30mm VR and 30-110mm VR 1 NIKKOR Lenses (Silver) by Shannon Judd

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The Nikon 1 J1 is a great camera if you know how to use it.

My main reason for buying this camera is the size and picture quality. Either that or the Canon t4i, if you've taken photoshoots and walk-by photos at anime conventions, you know you'll be walking around for hours collecting as many cosplayer photos as possible. I must say that I am satisfied with my purchase, the image quality is good considering the size of the sensor; better than point-and-shoot and about the same quality as an entry-level DSLR. I would have liked better battery life. A few things I would like to say to people who are having trouble getting good photos with this camera. If you use the flash in a place with low light, the camera will not cope well with the low light if you do not use the flash. If you are outdoors, set ISO to 100; the pictures are much better than when you keep the camera outside at auto 100-3200. Also, try shooting in RAW or RAW+Fine if you're interested in post-production. One of the most important things you need to do is set the Vibration Reduction settings to Normal. The camera is in active mode by default. Active mode is used when you are in a vehicle etc. to allow the camera to take better pictures on the go. Normal is when you move the camera, so the camera compensates for you when you move it. The Nikon J1 looks very solid and not cheap like other cameras, the front colored part is metal and the back looks like high quality plastic. My first J1 was a white version with a 10-30mm lens. I sold it and bought a silver one with 10-30mm and 30-110mm. The white color is shiny, and if you sweat or have greasy hands, the camera will be slippery. Glossy paint is also a fingerprint magnet. However, silver has a non-shiny finish that won't bother you if your hands are sweaty or greasy. The flash is ok, not great, but ok. If you're not using a 10mm main lens, you'll have to step back and zoom in a bit so you don't have a shadow at the bottom of your shots due to the flash height and lens length. Still not bad for a built-in flash. Video mode is great. You can record 30 minute clips, then you have to press the record button again. Using a 32MB San Disk Extreme SDHC card, I recorded over 2 hours of video without overheating when shooting at 720p 60fps, but I was in a cool location during the test. Then another day I was out in 90+ temps for a cosplay meeting, the camera overheated after 2 hours of photography and 17 minutes of recording. Although the video quality is still very good. I only expected the quality of the broadcast. The microphone is not bad, I would like it to be a little better. but good for the price. Pros: * Better photo quality than point-and-shoot and close to entry-level DSLRs. * Great photos when there is enough light and you know how to use the camera. * Can record videos. at 720p for 1 hour and 20 minutes on a single charge is pretty good. * Easy menu navigation. * Beautiful stylish appearance. * Lenses are great as they are multi-layered. Never had a problem with glare, even in bright sunlight. * SDHC and SDXC cards can be used. * Very fast continuous shooting. * Very light and compact. Fits in your pocket when using a 10mm prime lens. Cons: * Poor low light performance if you don't use a flash. * Battery. 250 photos per charge * No lens hood for 10-30mm lens (must be purchased separately) but comes with 30-110mm * Microphone in video mode isn't that big to point out, I give it a 3/5 * price

  • great product
Cons
