Difficult to use due to poor user interface - Heater can stay on even if batteries die

I bought this remote control to use with a heater that doesn't have a remote control. The process is quite simple - just turn on the heater and set it to "max" (the highest temperature) and plug it into an outlet. Connect the remote control to the connector. Wait until the LED stops blinking. That's where the problems start. Several problems arose at launch: The device was delivered set to Celsius temperature. The manual is very unclear how to reset and pressing + and - at the same time like what the manual says didn't work. Here's what worked for me: 1. Press and hold the "-/OFF" button and keep it pressed. 2. Press and hold the "+/ONโ€ button, hold until the flame or snowflake at the top of the display starts flashing .3. You can now toggle between heating and AC by pressing the +/ON button.4. When finished, press and hold the -/OFF button until C or F flashes. Now you can toggle between them with the +/ON button.5. After installation, give it time and it will remember your settings. You should see two temperatures - current above and target below if you press the ON button now. If that doesn't work, hold down the ON button until you see two numbers. You are now in "Automatic mode". Now it is in the desired mode and temperature system, you can set the target temperature using the + and - buttons. In COOL mode, the device turns on the output until the room cools down to the set temperature, in HEAT mode, it turns on the heating until the temperature reaches the set temperature. In this mode, you can turn off the device by long pressing the "OFFโ€ button. This will return you to manual mode. To turn it back on, short press ON to turn it on, then press and hold the ON button again to switch to automatic mode. With the best user interface (UI), it will be a 5 star device. Still, I'm deducting three stars because the user interface is so bad. Pros: - pretty good thermometer - it matches my desktop thermometer but is 2 degrees off the more accurate Accobi reading but it has been consistent. - Worked with a 1500W heater with no electrical issues - the temperature is measured on the remote control, not the outlet (which is a huge benefit as you don't want to be monitoring the temperature where you plugged the heater in, you would like to know if it works he). hot/cold where you are) - With the remote control you can easily switch off the device when you leave the area. - Turns a "dumb heater" into a remote controlled thermostat heater. - It is black and looks great when you sit on a table. Cons: - It is clear that nobody understood the user interface related to the design of the control system. - The + button is traditionally located on the right side and not on the left like on this device. It can be confusing with cluttered ON/OFF buttons. This device requires at least two more buttons to separate +/- from on/off. The buttons could then be arranged logically: at the top ON and +, off and - at the very bottom (a godsend advertisement!) - a MODE button would be nice to conveniently switch between cooling and heating, long press to switch between C and F switch. There should also be an AUTO button to toggle between manual and auto modes, but a long press on the ON button can do the same. - The controls are actually quite thick for a modern device. This is mainly due to the size of the batteries - it seems that the device is a bit hesitant when switching on the heating. For example I set it to 71 and the temperature is 70.3 but I have to increase it to 72 to turn on the heating. I tried it in Celsius mode and encountered the same problem. - Likewise, once the target temperature is reached, it continues to heat until the next target is reached (I'm deducting a star for this behavior) - The green LED control is also insanely bright - I had to put a piece of tape on it. Recommendation: If you don't like the rather complicated sequence of commands to get where you want to go, I would recommend going through it. I'd also like to warn you that if you're looking for precision, this isn't a unit. It's a bit annoying when the display clearly shows that the device should turn on or off because it's reached the set temperature, but it doesn't. This leads to a lot of fumbling with the remote control. But. and that's a big but. To be honest I couldn't find any other units that offered the same feature (remote control for thermostatic heating/AC) and didn't have the same issues (all the other units like this on Revain look like they work with the same technology). The manufacturer reads these reviews and responds with the best device next year. -------- Updated 4/13/2020 ------ Today I discovered something new and disturbing - if the remote battery dies, there's a chance the heater switch will remain "ON". "Position. I suspect this is what happens when the battery dies during a thermal cycle. Of course, this can mean that the heating remains switched on for a longer period of time. As far as I know, the remote didn't give any indication that the batteries were low or dead, instead the display just flashed. if it can't contact the remote control.
