Spend the extra money and know you have the best thermometer around.
My husband saw this on The Food Network and everyone said it was the only thing to buy. I hesitated as several much cheaper ones looked alike. I'm glad it didn't sink. It's wonderful and amazing how much easier it is to cook the perfect steak or burger when you can have it at the right temperature right away and not have to guess if it's right or not. I highly recommend this.
