This is my first moka pot. I've heard a lot about them and am interested in making different types of coffee, so finally settled on one when I came across this stainless steel version. I don't really like coffee, although I do like the smell it brews. Sometimes I love iced coffee, but everyone else in the family should have their own cup or two every day. I've always wondered how exactly these pots work, and it turned out to be so simple! Water is poured into the lower tank up to the level of the safety valve. Coffee is poured into a funnel with a spoon, which is placed in the tank (it does not need to be tamped), and then the upper tank is screwed on - there is a gasket between the top and bottom, and the top has a filter and collects the coffee. Coffee as it bubbles through the center tube as a result of the pressurization of the tank. I know I shouldn't do this for safety reasons, but I couldn't help but open the lid to look inside as the lid started to fill. I'm not entirely sure how I know when it's done, but I just let it seep in for an extra minute or so after the noise dies down a bit. The entire process takes only a few minutes and cleaning is also very easy. I also found this moka pot to be a lot smaller than I expected and thought I had accidentally ordered a smaller version. I decided to order a bigger one and found out it was the larger version! My husband loves the coffee made in this pot - he thinks it's 10 times better than the coffee he's made in our regular coffee maker for the past thirty years, and way better and way easier to make than coffee. it does in our fairly new espresso machine. The first time I used it, I followed the directions, making sure to use the smallest burner and flame possible, and it worked like clockwork. I kept the flame low enough to only heat the bottom of the pot, not the sides, and the faux wood handle didn't heat up at all. The Moka pot has a simple yet elegant streamlined design. The stainless steel is quite thick, feels heavy for its size, and has a nice matte finish. This moka pot is so economical to use - you no longer need to buy filters. I wish I had bought one like this years ago! The current price of $29.99 is very reasonable.
