Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 979-170 Power Steering Return Hose: Premium Replacement for Select Toyota Models by Donnie King

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked on a 2011 Camry

I've had a power steering reservoir leak for quite a while. Over the years the right side rail of the frame has become a real mess. Not sure where it's leaking from, but I've tried changing/tightening the clamps to no avail. Pointing out here on Revain that's exactly why people replaced that entire hose assembly. This Dorman part fits well and saves you a lot on the dealer part. The curves are perfect and as others have pointed out you need to reuse 2 zip ties. To drain the reservoir I simply removed the splash guard on the right side, then removed the bottom of the hose line and drained into the sump. Another reviewer noted that the hose line is not very easy to replace. It got wedged under some AC lines and just won't slide out due to the bends. I found that by removing the rubber hoses from each end I could pull the pipe up and towards the front of the car by turning counter clockwise and up and over the alternator pulley. Then reverse the installation order. Very tight but it barely worked. So far, so good. I will update the review if anything leaks or breaks. Note: Our vehicle requires Dex III for power steering. I usually don't deviate from the factory recommendations. My dealer wasn't around so I replaced the Red Line power steering fluid as it's supposed to replace the Dex III. Reg PS is not entirely correct.
