The material on it is quite hard. They flex, but not really, so getting in and out is a hassle. You have to take them off completely to use your cover and sit down, so it's not something you can do on spur of the moment, especially if you're in a parking lot alone or with kids. We ended up cutting the large rug in half so we didn't have to take out the other end of the back seat to use our middle row and get away. They will definitely protect your carpet, but I wouldn't buy them again due to the real lack of usability with my folding seats.
