It appears from the reviews that there are two types of processors available (referred to as "hot" and "cold"). I wouldn't rule out the possibility that it is (there are a variety of steppings and degrees of clumsiness in the internal thermal interface, for example). In sequence: Working in virtual machines necessitated that I build a powerful mini-ITX system unit, but I dithered over which processor to use for quite some time before settling on the Core i5-4590 (read the technology overview:. Livejournal.Com/84514.Html, at the very end). My processor runs hot, and I'm not sure if it's even compatible with the mini-ITX form factor. At first, I had AlSil-3 cooling with a cheap low-profile Ice Hammer IH-3080PWMcomoler (300, simply aluminum fins + 90mm carlson). I was astounded when I started the OCCT:CPU burn test and discovered that in just a few minutes, one of thecomres had reached 86-87 degrees and the test had to be halted due to safety concerns. Assume a temperature of 40 degrees while at rest. Of course, I didn't like it, so I switched to a cooler that was both low-profile and expensive: the Cooler Master GeminII M4 (1300, copper + aluminum heat pipes + Carlson 120mm). I also lowered the Vcore processor comres' voltage in the BIOS from the default 1.096V to 1.057V (going any lower on my compy was impossible, as it disrupted the system's stability and caused BSOD). It's correct that the CPU case temperature (using the AIDA64 stability test) is 63 degrees. Maybe I would have settled for something "cooler" or a T series with lower consumption if I'd known all of the above. It's true that the processor won't be put to its full potential in a mode similiar to the burn-test, but there's still some food for thought there.
