They can't connect to each other. There is only one connection side and it has to go to the gate. I ordered 5 to block a larger opening in the house (such as a mantle opening) and learned the hard way, now I have to return them. The instructions say you can't plug an extension into another extension, but I didn't see that in the product description itself. We kept the gate but now our pup is confined to a much smaller area than we had hoped. I probably would have gone with a different gate/fence if I had known. Other than that, it's exactly what you would expect. It blocks the corridor and looks solid and safe. Apart from extensions there were no problems.
