The reviews I read were so "great"/"terrible" that I felt completely ignorant. but I liked the look and the price. I decided to just go ahead and get this and take enough pictures and sizes so maybe my review can help someone better understand what they are getting into. If you don't want to read any further, I love these lampshades. You take care of the assembly. Either people complain about the assembly or they complain about the shipping cost. If they were pre-assembled, you would pay for this *and* the shipping cost. Unassembled is the most efficient shipping method and I appreciate it. Follow the directions, or at least close to them. The side "arms" have small holes and a tooth that fits and bites into the inner parts of the upper and lower gear rings. The first 2 will be the most uncomfortable. I suggest doing these first 2 with your hands in the top/small ring and then the bottom/big ring. Place those first two hands on opposite sides. Then follow the instructions and install a new lever at every fourth point, or like me: turn opposite sides in a circle and divide the gaps between the levers in half. (Personally, I think the way I did it made it stronger faster.) Note: Line up the "muzzles" of the upper and forearms, then press them into place. You may have to use a little force to get the "tooth" to push through and dig into the inner hole. No glue required. Unless you break a tooth. But then each shade has 3 extra temples for something like that. So find out why one broke and don't do it again ;) I saw an indication that the wooden parts were very brittle. I do not agree. Again. Good lightweight construction for transport and hanging. The first I collected to understand what I was doing, the second I measured. After laying out all the pieces I started the first hand to finish the last hand (i.e. not the time it took to unwrap/roll out) 14 minutes. Dimensions when assembled Overall top diameter: 4" Widest overall diameter: 16.25" Overall height: 12". If you hate DIY, don't have 20 minutes to do it, or don't have fine motor skills, don't take this. If you have any level and like the way it looks, buy it. Paired with Edison LED bulbs. Disclaimer, do not use the cables/housing provided as our lights required a system upgrade. I was sorry I couldn't get them without the cables but I think I'll just add them to Craig's list! 4 stars for ease of installation and assembly just because I understand not all people have them the same Thanks for the fun project! Quick satisfaction and looks great!
