Review on Enhanced Talon Flex Aerosol Wand by Nu-Calgon, Model #4776-0 by Michelle Wright

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This worked great for me!

I have a 16 year old TRANE split system and my evaporator coil has never been cleaned to the best of my knowledge. BE PROUD of this DIY and glad you can buy this suction cup from Revain! My local HVAC wholesalers will not sell this or anything else to the public. I have lived in the house for 6 years now and the coil was difficult to access and it took me a while to decide to clean it. The side panel of the evaporator housing was bolted but had holes through which the refrigerant lines for the compressor passed. I used tin snips to carefully cut through the metal around the lines to remove the panel. From this I could tell that the evaporator coil was never cleaned. Access to the front of the coil is limited due to the copper leads getting in the way. I have small hands for a man and can't even get a hand in the front of the roller to brush or remove dirt. I could see dirt/dust and its film on the cooling fins. Unfortunately, I can't look directly into the slats because access doesn't allow it. The back was more accessible and looks relatively clean. But again, the back of the coil is furthest from the fan motor and airflow direction. I have an air compressor and gently used the blowgun at a 90 degree angle from behind to loosen the debris on the spool. I used Nu Calgon Talon and Nu Calgon No Rinse Foam Heat Exchanger Cleaner on both sides of the heat exchanger. It foamed in most places. This talon worked great for getting to the front of the reel. Most of the front of the coil was sprayed at an angle, but that was the best I could do with it. Talon is expensive and I was hesitant to buy it as $30 isn't cheap for something like this. But it's not junk and well made. The packaging doesn't say Made in China so I'm hoping it was made here by an American. I love supporting the American worker! I had to spray it many times then take it out and repaint. The weight of the steel line lowers it and I had to readjust a lot. But that's not Talon's fault, because fully extended 27 inches, attached to a can, it will sink under the weight of the steel line if you're not holding it. And I can't get my hand in there to hold the end of the claw because it's tight there. Without them I wouldn't be able to clean the coil at all! It was just flexible, just the way I needed it. I am very happy with the purchase and using it to clean my evaporator coil. Most of the dirt and chunks on the coil surface have been removed. I washed it off with water from a chemical spray bottle because it wasn't hot enough to use the conditioner yet. And the boy was that the water that was dripping down was BAD! After doing what I could say, a lot came out thanks to this Nu Calgon Talon and atomizer coil cleaner. I poured a cleaning solution into the condensate drain before and after cleaning the heat exchanger because of the large amount of dirt. I would buy it again and recommend it. Yes, it will have its limits, like everything else. Pro HVAC tools with better access cost hundreds more to buy. I am very happy.
