it's pretty busy there

Superwinch Terra 35 Synthetic Bought from Revain.Com. The box was surprisingly small but I think it's just a 3500lb winch. I bought it for my Honda Pioneer 500. I bought the KFI winch mount separately. Honda would sell me a Warn winch for three times the price and charge me $300 to install it. I figured I could install it myself and get Superwinch for 1/3 the price of Warn. I have had several ATV Warn winches. They've never let me down, but I've never been hard on them. I have chosen not to be strict with Superwinch and it seems to be on par with Warn in quality. The KFI bracket fits perfectly on the standard Honda front bumper and the winch fits on the bracket. The four mounting bolts that came with it were 1/4" shorter. I bought four longer 8.8 bolts from a local store. Never mind. Connecting the winch is easy. The instructions are confusing, but there's nothing magical about it. to connect a winch. thick wires and ground wires from the battery to the relay. In fact there was a ground point next to the battery so I ran a ground wire there. Saved space in the battery box, it's quite cramped. The fuse is next to the battery. Hot then run and ground from the relay to the winch. The wires are color coded. The instructions say to place the relay next to the battery. I didn't have a dry place to mount the relay next to the battery so I placed it closer to the winch .Black and red) and long (yellow and blue) pairs of thick wires come with the winch I used them for the Honda Pioneer (relay under the fron thood) the wires used were the perfect length. I inserted an image. DO NOT follow my picture to connect the winch. I swapped black and red for blue and yellow because of the required length of the barrels. So my yellow was hot from the battery and the blue was frayed. Easy Connecting the switch is easy. You'll find a power source for the switch (either always hot or hot when the button is "on"). Then there are two longer wires attached to the relay. When the winch retracts when you press the output rocker. swap two wires on the relay. Easy. I also connected a remote switch. I placed this fork near the winch's rocker switch. The wires for the remote control are also connected to the relay. I ran the wires along with the switch wires. This is a fairly simple setup (although my explanation may not be). Synthetic rope is good. It comes with a sheath of about four feet (made of the same material as the rope). This sheath is used to protect the end of the rope closest to the hook. This end of the rope gets the most abuse, so it would be wise to add an extra layer of protection. I bought a KFI winch cable hook stopper. This is a round piece of rubber that allows the hook to be pressed firmly against the fairlead (loop) to prevent the hook from bottoming out. He got caught on a hook at the end of the rope. This is a MUST; Just buy it together with the winch. Again, I love the look of the Superwinch. I used a winch to pull the car across the yard. It weighs 3,500 pounds, so towing 1,100 pounds side-by-side wasn't a problem. If I'm really stuck, I'll just double up with a jerk block. A larger winch is simply more weight hanging from the front of your machine. don't need that

Pros
  • Constant test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
