Review on 🎢 IK Multimedia iKlip 3: The Ultimate Tablet Mount for Microphone and Music Stands by Todd Look

Mostly satisfied with the best tablet accessory

Contrary to some other reviews, the ball joint looks good. I have the same iPhone setup I've had for years. The plastic warps a bit over time and needs a bit of twisting, but it never stopped working. With this product, I see that after twisting it down there is still room for the ball retainer to tighten further. Even if the same thing happens, I don't expect a problem. Likewise, I've had no trouble fitting my iPad 12.9 into the jaws (maybe they were trying to stuff it into the jaws along the long axis? It's not going to work in any way.) Not a case, but there seems to be plenty of room in the suitcase, if only I had it. The biggest downside I've found is the back of the ball joint receiver, where the adjustment takes place: it's in two pieces (unlike the iPhone version) and there's a lot more flexibility in where they connect than I'd like. So if you touch the part of the iPad furthest from the jaws, you'll notice a little of it. The jaws themselves seem so compressed that there is no problem with movement. I have some concerns about this if I ever need to use it in a live music situation (assuming there will be live music in the future). It just seems like a design flaw that's easy to avoid. For musicians like me, the stand is probably the biggest source of movement. As for the price, yes I would call it a bit pricey for a plastic item. It's Italian, so like Apple, most of the budget went into the design, right? ;-) OTOH, the only versions of this type of product that I've seen that look really solid are dedicated photo/video devices and are much more expensive.

Pros
  • Simplified design makes installation and removal quicker than ever
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
