Absolutely normal. Works great
The foam on it is coarse so it doesn't clog as quickly as my old fine sponge pre-filter. It still keeps a lot of bits and pieces off my rear filter which is the main reason I bought it. It has no bottom which means it looks like a hose and the diameter of the hose is larger than the inlet on my aqueon quietflow 50 so the sponge from the filter suction stays on top of the hose.
