Review on Bis Ans Ende Welt SANTIANO by Justin Torres

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Who would have thought?

So here we have a group of elderly Germans (and one Englishman) singing English and Irish swimming songs (mostly) in German (mostly) to a predominantly German audience. What can go wrong? As it turned out, nothing special. Germany isn't playing a major role in the folk-rock revival at the moment, unlike England and France, for example, in the past. The folk rock revival is dead anyway, everyone knows that. And German isn't the best language to listen to if you don't speak it; There won't be many spontaneous songs in England. So it's a shock to see Santiano playing in front of a huge, cheering crowd and also coming very close to representing his country in the Eurovision Song Contest. They hit their niche and fit perfectly. I wonder if they're as surprised by their sudden success as we are. The chances of Santiano gaining some local fame must have been pretty high, but that didn't seem to bother her in the least. . As I don't live in Germany I can't explain how much zeitgeist they used, but my god the Germans love them. They deserve much more international attention and we hope that their performances at the Eurovision Song Contest and their many YouTube videos will encourage new fans to buy and spread the word about the albums. Full speed ahead, Santiano!
