For the average handyman this is a good investment. I am a professional heavy duty (big truck) mechanic and this was my first attempt at replacing valve stem seals on a 1999 Honda Accord LX with a 2.3L SOHC engine with the cylinder head installed. This tool gave me a huge advantage in that I got the job done pretty quickly (about 3 hours) the first time. But this tool is also difficult to use, removing the guards was very easy. Installation is a little more difficult. Pushing the tool with your hands was easier than hitting it with a hammer when installing, but still had problems with the intake valves a few times. They were aimed at the firewall, I couldn't push them straight down with my hands. Used a crowbar under the hood to push this tool down but slipped a few times which allowed some of the guards to fly away (luckily they found them). Insiders also advise using string and threading it through the spark plug hole into the cylinder, then turning the engine by hand to hold the valves in the head while the springs are removed. And also. on the packaging is written install the holders in the instrument, then install. doesn't work like that. Place the retainers in the retainer on the spring, then use the tool to press down. Overall, this saves time and money for a versatile tool. You can be lucky with other engines.
