Review on πŸ‘• John Boyne Boys' Striped Pajamas for Boys' Clothing by Herb Guevara

Revainrating 4 out of 5

That left me speechless.

As with all of John Boyne's books, it took me time after reading to process what I read. As if each of his books deserved a moment of silence. Written from the point of view of a child who clearly doesn't understand the depravity that surrounds him and the utter devastation of the spirit he lives with next door, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas offers a touching look at innocence among children before it is given to them were taught to hate. It is this innocence of spirit that ultimately exacerbates tragedy and literally exposes the horrors of the Holocaust to an unsuspecting Nazi commander.

Pros
  • The book offers readers a valuable lesson on the importance of empathy, kindness and understanding in the face of hate and intolerance.
Cons
  • Minimizes the trauma of the Holocaust
