Weak magnets. If you can't trust a product of this nature, why take the risk?

Sorry, I didn't listen to the reviews on this product. The premise of the product is great, the actual design is wrong. I quickly formulated a do-it-yourself solution by going to Home Depot with a similar concept after this article arrived. (I would add that it is cheaper and more efficient.) The magnets on this product are very weak. The product will adhere to the metal surface of the tank but not strong enough to compress the foam rubber seal. You'll need to help the magnets and push the gasket against the surface of the tank to "snap" it in place. At this point the strength of the magnet weakens again, the rubber expands and pulls the magnet away from the tank surface. The product will be better served with stronger rare earth magnets. This is not a product I would trust to temporarily prevent a potential environmental problem with a leaking oil tank.

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • So-so
