I assumed the lantern would just be "okay”. After using it last night, I was quite surprised how bright all the light functions were. Not normally something you get for $20. I could clearly see 100+ yards with the actual flashlight. The white lantern cast about a 20-25ft beam. The red light was also perfect for Astrophotography. Maybe a little on the intense side for maintaining your night vision for visual astronomy but not by much. My wife and I could easily navigate the site with the red light. Which cast about a 10ft beam. Outside of 10ft you can still see but at about half the intensity.
