Because today's washers and dryers and other similar appliances have electronic controls that are sensitive to surges and other hazards, this is a must have product and I bought mine to protect my new washing machine which I recently bought. It's just a must-have product, you don't have to worry about the power cord as the three-pronged grounding plug is part of the device. You plug your plans into the three-prong outlet on the front of the unit, then plug both devices into a standard grounded three-prong outlet, and LED indicators show the status of the surge protector to see if it's operational or not. . Please note that these lights are difficult to see as they are not very large and not very bright. The biggest benefit of this is that search protection doesn't cover or occupy both outlets, so you can still plug other devices into the other half of your outlet that you don't have to worry about protecting. I've been using mine for about a month and haven't had any issues with it so far and the price is cheap enough to be a safe buy.
