This lamp is held in the socket by a rubber grommet. The sleeve is retained on the piston by no other means than friction between the outer body of the bulb and the inner surface of the sleeve. This allows you to freely install the bulb in the socket for the best alignment. During installation, however, the light bulb can also be pulled out of the sleeve, with the sleeve remaining in the socket and the light bulb hanging from below. In my case (2014 Lexus GX460) the reverse lamp socket is vertical and the lamp is mounted below. In this orientation, the sleeve does not have sufficient engagement with the plunger. I think it may loosen over time from vibration. The package comes with a set of small o-rings that are supposed to solve this problem, but in my case they didn't help. Otherwise the quality seems to be good and the yield is very high.
