Drain plug loosens everything

This oil pan fits the stock oil pan exactly, but on my 2004 Suburban the shift cable retaining clip blocks removal and installation of the oil pan. Chilton's recommends unscrewing this bracket, but the 2 screws holding this bracket are almost inaccessible. I didn't have the luxury of a lift, so on my back I pulled the cable out of the mount and then used my giant channelocks to slide the mount out of the way while you lowered the pan. Search the internet for a video of a mechanic unplugging a wire from a bracket to see how a small clamp works and you'll be good to go home. The nice thing about this pot is the drain plug. No matter how hard you try, if you get the soup pan out of the way, you'll end up with a bath of trans liquid. Next time I change the filter it will be much cleaner. Here are a few tips and reminders I should do to make this job easier (now and in the future): 1) Loosen the drain plug (FACTORY TIGHTENED TOO TIGHT) and install a good quality plug gasket such as Dorman 65270 AutoGrade Oil Drain. Plug and Gasket2) Use a small amount of Permatex to glue the gasket to the pallet. That way it stays in place while you battle the frying pan home. 3) As others have added, don't forget to transfer the magnet to the new pan.
