My old coffee maker was so petrified that the water only heated to 165 F and the coffee it made was tasteless, awful. I wanted a new machine that would make great coffee, but since I'm the only coffee drinker in the house, I needed a 4 or 5 cup machine. Unfortunately, most better quality coffee makers are rated for 8 and 12 cups. I suspect smaller cars tend to be in a more price sensitive market. I almost gave up on this great little coffee maker because of all the negative reviews on here. No, it's not cute. Yes, you must remove the filter housing and unscrew the carafe lid. Yes, you need to pour some hot tap water into the carafe to preheat it. But this machine quickly heats water to 195 F with a 1100W heater. It has a shower head that sprays water over the entire filter surface. It makes great coffee that stays nice and hot for an hour and doesn't burn a second cup like my old hotplate coffee maker. I have read several reviews that say the carafe is leaking. If your I feel your pain but this is a manufacturing defect and must be returned under warranty. Mine is NOT leaking. The coffee is poured at the right speed. I can pour all my coffee without making a mess, which I can't say about my old glass carafe. I am 100% satisfied!
