They look exactly like the picture, very shiny. They are slightly narrower compared to most chunky and wide toddler shoes. So if your child has a wider foot, you can choose one size larger. My child's foot is narrow so they fit her. I bought them in pink for the Princess Aurora costume, they make good shoes for princesses. She's worn them a few times now, with and without socks, and says they don't hurt and are comfortable. I was afraid they would hurt her feet without socks but she walked for hours and they didn't seem to bother her or leave a mark. They are made like traditional jellies, the sole is made of the same material as the rest of the shoe, the inside is lined. My kid didn't slip in it at all. I want to reply to comments that the shoes smell bad and the buckle is difficult, I think people put too much emphasis on both. They definitely smell like plastic/rubber but they are vented so that's temporary. You don't have to shoot a star. And the buckle is a little different from traditional US buckles, it is not a Rubik's Cube, you will find out in seconds. Don't shoot down a star. For the price these are really great little shoes that your child can wear dressy or casual, I would definitely recommend them.
