The timer needs preparation and speed, but after a few trial runs I was able to set up two (simple) settings where the light comes on when the other socket goes out. Initially I had to call customer service which was the most helpful. They called me back and emailed me to make sure both settings worked. What happens is that depending on the clock setting, the setting has to go through the power-on time before the socket becomes active. The one I had set at 7:30pm continued to work at that time, and the one set at 6:30am was not active until the clock hit 6:30am the next day. When an output is active, the corresponding indicator turns red. Agreed, it's a feat of customization due to the 5 second idle lock and the support folks have assured me they've passed that on to the manufacturer. But it's possible. When it is locked, press the MIN and TIMER buttons at the same time to unlock it and continue programming where you left off. I felt like I was being taught spying! One day I will try a more complex combination.
