6 months update. Unfortunately, I have to report that UV radiation damages plastic shells. I'm glad I did - really great value for money. It certainly doesn't seem cheap, although I don't know what customer service is out there if you ever need it. In fact, it's so cheap that I'd practically just replace it even if it had a problem. We continue. I know there is a lot of debate about UV sterilizers in canister filters, whether they actually do anything or not. I cannot comment on the castration aspect of parasites and in fact I am not expecting full castration. I plan on using it all the time and I'm happy with all the benefits it can offer (without having to set up and maintain a separate UV). However, I immediately started reaping the benefits of clean water as it prevents algae from entering the water column. But that means algae is now growing on my glass. ;) Mag-Float ordered. Speaking about this filter on a fish forum, I am a member and noticed that we have two very similar SunSuns. She has 404B. It took a minute to figure out what the difference between our models was as the prices differ but the descriptions are very similar - 5 levels, UV option, about the same size, same GPH and recommended tank size. She noticed that the UV switches were in a slightly different location and the start button was much larger on the 304B. I also read that the 404B has a handle and the 304B doesn't (and how I wish it had come on cleaning day). . I have to keep the water level higher to use the skimmer as I feel it really helps. Overall, after switching from hanging filters to this one, I am amazed at how much cleaner my aquarium has become and how much more pleasant the canister is to look after. It has price, performance, everything - I would buy it again!
