I just spent hours (literally hours) trying to get the cylinder out of my old chair. If yours isn't easy to figure out, just turn it in now while you can and buy a new chair. I hit this thing from all angles and used a piece of steel as a wedge to get the best angle. I used a hair dryer to heat the base plastic around the cylinder when it finally gave up. The upper part was much more difficult to separate. 5/5 for the actual product but I wish I was smart enough to try removing the cylinder before ordering. I would also order a pipe wrench (that's how they film it on YouTube).
