I've had this for a few weeks now. Although I've used many of these over the years, it takes time to get used to a new brand, model or style. This device is made of high quality stainless steel and the workmanship is first class. I haven't had any issues with the metal handle overheating. But I shift the pan ten percent toward the stove so the handle is definitely not directly over the fire. I've read a few posts about using water to preheat rather than fry bottoms etc. Technically, water is a refrigerant, and since water can't get hotter than 212 degrees, there shouldn't be a problem with a lot of heat either. BUT, as soon as the water rises, the device should be removed from the fire at the first "glug". Give yourself time to get used to this potty and you will be happy. I only use it for coffee. Much luck.
