Although this is my first security system, I had no problems installing hardware or connecting to WiFi. Setup was easy and the quick start guide did a good job of explaining how to connect to my wireless network. After opening the well-packaged equipment, 2 cameras were installed and the system was up and running in about 45 minutes. It probably took another 15 minutes to install and format the hard drive (not included). I am very impressed with the quality of the cameras and the video images they produce. The cameras are metal and both feel pretty solid. The only downside I've encountered so far has to do with setting up the systems management software. There are many setting options that can be changed, but there is no explanation as to what they do. I feel like the instruction manual was written by an engineer. I'm fairly tech savvy, have built and configured computers and networks, and I'm still designing setups through trial and error. The HOMEVIZ app works well. For some reason, the terms that you have to agree to when downloading from the GooglePlay app are only offered in one language, which is definitely not English. Since this application has access to live video from home, it would be good to know what you consent to and how your data may be used. After a bit of searching, I found English terms online on the GooglePlay website. As I live in a part of the country that is currently covered in ice and snow, I have not placed any cameras outside. That will have to wait until spring. Now I have temporarily installed 3 cameras in my house. They all work well, producing impressively sharp images, and despite being on the edge of our huge old Victorian home, they all connect to my WiFi router with ease. The system does an excellent job of distinguishing between humans and pets to trigger alerts. I installed a hard drive that was removed from an unused desktop PC with no problems. It was easy to set up and format the drive from the DVR menu. So far I am very satisfied with the system. It feels solid and offers quite a bit at a very reasonable price. I would just ask for an instruction manual (printed or online) which would make setup and menu navigation a bit easier. The Help option in the system menu may also be worth considering.
