I wish it was working normal. For some reason, it is not

My son was really excited to see the box when it arrived. We both got together and laid the track, put new batteries and switched it on. It just goes for one round and then stops . Second problem is that the Engine simply comes out of the coupling and runs another round and stops right behind rest of the train. Please tell seller not to sell this toy anymore before they can fix these problems.Please let me know if you come up with a solution. It only looks good stand still in front of my Christmas Tree.
