Review on Protective CHROMEBOOK CB514 1HT Chromebook SP314 54N by Kyle Salinas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty disappointed

Let me start by saying that I've spent a lot of time making sure I ordered a product that was specifically designed for my laptop. I even went so far as to ask Lenovo for the exact model (there are 21 IdeaPad 5 variants). That being said, I ONLY found 2 protective cases for my model. I chose this one for 2 reasons: the case and the pen. I've been buying protective cases for my tablets and laptops for years and I always need these two qualities. Needless to say, I was terribly excited to finally see someone thinking the same thing as me. Imagine my disappointment when I found this case far from satisfactory. Note: If you click on the link for this item for sale, you will see that there are 3 color options: black, red, blue. Depending on the color you choose, different computer models will be shown as compatible. The ONLY blue version contained my specific computer model/version so I chose blue and the ONLY reason I chose blue. I personally would prefer black or even red. Let's start with the instructions - the last 2 pictures. These are very small, mostly black images and almost unusable for me. I couldn't see enough detail in the pictures to understand what I was seeing and the text didn't help at all. This meant my husband, granddaughter and I spent more than necessary figuring out how to dress the suitcase. Because it only fits one way, but it's very, very difficult to put on. Especially the smallest rubber bands hold the bottom of the screen. Coming to one part of the screen: the corners are loose and attached too close to the corner making it difficult to slide the screen in, and when it's finally attached there are large gaps in the corner area. This means that if you are not careful when opening the case, the screen will appear on opening. This is one of the three things you need to watch out for, otherwise the case will come off completely. When you open the case the keyboard slides backwards and if you don't grab 3 areas it comes out completely from the rubber band that holds it in place. In particular, be sure to hold your hand on the back of the keyboard (on the outside of the lid and just below the screen where the hinge is) and push forward to prevent the keyboard from slipping out. This makes it quite inconvenient to open it every time. The final and most mysterious part is the part of the case that folds in such a way that the keyboard tilts. There's no easy way to get at it, and every time I try to use it, I manage to detach part of the keyboard from the case. I'm debating whether to return or not as this is the only case with features I wanted, but it's a royal pain in petunia to use.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Factor set
