We have three chest freezers, two of which are hidden in the basement and full of vegetables from the garden, game from the farm and meat from our nephew's farm. The problem is the loss of one or both in the event of a GFCI and its contents being triggered. One freezer is about a year old and the other is only a few months old. I've seen this system recommended in the FB group and the feedback from Revain seems to be positive. So I decided to give it a try, especially as it has a Wi-Fi connection so there can be an information display in the house and an alarm. We can check the status of the freezers at any time and an alarm will alert us when a disaster is imminent. It arrived well packaged. The appearance of the box is ordinary cardboard with a plain label on one end only. No fancy marketing! I ordered four AA lithium batteries for the transmitter units, which the manufacturer recommends for use in freezers. After first inserting the standard copper top batteries into the display and then inserting the lithium batteries into the transmitter units, the temperatures of each transmitter unit were instantly shown on the display. They were equal at about 72F. For me the directions were clear, although being mechanically inclined probably helps! I set the minimum and maximum temperature alarms and took the transmitter units to the freezer. I hung them on baskets with zip ties as the included suction cups would not snag on uneven freezer walls. The Revain photo showing the silicone loop wrapped around itself isn't very practical as the loop is small compared to the size of the transmitter and you would have to stretch it a lot. Too much hassle in the depths of a full freezer! When I got back downstairs the alarm went off. The temperatures displayed slowly decreased as the transmitter units adjusted to the freezer's internal temperature, but were higher than my maximum temperature setting. I rang the bell button to turn off the alarm. The display appears to update every few seconds instead of instantly. After a few minutes, the displayed temperature reached the freezer's internal temperature, which was just under 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Each measurement was slightly different as it was in different freezers from different manufacturers and with different settings. and temperatures change within a few degrees anyway when the freeze compressor is running. 0 degrees Fahrenheit is what is expected for a chest freezer. I have alarm settings at -20F and 15F for both freezers. The alarm will not sound for a few minutes when the temperature reaches these levels. This avoids alarms when the freezer lid is opened to put in or take out food. Signal display showing maximum strength with display unit may be 20 feet (in a straight line) from freezers on the floor above. Due to the at least twice as large move to the kitchen, where the signal has to run through the thick natural stone wall in the basement, as well as through the floor construction and around the various steel/wood heating ducts in the floor, the strength was still strong. I was impressed considering the transmitter boxes are also in a cold metal box! The two small magnets on the top back corners of the display unit are not strong enough to hold it securely to the fridge door. It slides down when the door is closed and there is a risk of it falling and being damaged. I have it on a dresser in the dining room where it's not in the way but is visible. It can also be hung on a nail on the wall. While a bit pricey compared to other similar units (with many 1-star reviews!), $35 is a small price to pay lest you ruin all that precious groceries that are in the freezers ! So far the system is working well and by design. I'll update if anything goes wrong! UPDATE: It's been a few months and the system is working fine. After about the first week, I noticed that one of my freezers was 10 degrees or more colder than the other, which was unnecessary. I adjusted it and now I have comparable temperatures, although the freezer I later bought has a wider range of temperature variations due to a less accurate control system. Very satisfied!
