Review on ๐Ÿ“ถ Enhanced Communication for Renogy Charge Controllers: Introducing the Bluetooth Module RJ12, Compatible with Rover/Wanderer/Adventurer, BT-1 RS232 by Kris Martin

Good but needs an update

It's nice to see the solar system vitals via the app without having to look at the controller. However, the temperature always shows 25 degrees Celsius, although the Rover 30 amplifier controller shows the actual temperature differently. You need to connect a temperature sensor to show the temperature that applies to the battery temperature. State of charge is also programmable for lead-acid batteries. If you install lithium, the lithium charge level will be displayed incorrectly and the battery charge level will be inflated too much. It's just a programming issue that's easy to fix. If you want to see the actual state of charge, you absolutely need a shunt-type coulometer (battery tester). Some BMS are also equipped with Bluetooth, the app shows the true state of charge. The Renogy app shows the current power, voltage and current, but the history is very wrong. Not reliable at all. Even when the controller is powered off, it randomly displays incorrect power and performance readings. This is either an application error or a controller error, but something is definitely wrong.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Almost ok
